Educational Technology

Educational technology (also called learning technology) refers to the study and ethical practice of improving learning and performance through the creation, use and management of appropriate technological processes and resources. Instructional theory and learning theory are often associated and included with the term educational technology. While instructional technology includes processes and systems of learning and instruction, educational technology includes other systems used for the development of human abilities. Educational technology includes but does not include software, hardware and Internet applications and activities. But the meaning of these words is still debated.

Description and meaning

Educational technology can be most simply and conveniently defined as an array of tools that can be helpful in the learning process of the learner. Educational technology relies on a broad definition of the word "technology". Technology may refer to physical materials of human use, such as machines or hardware, but can also include broader topics such as systems, methods of organization, and technology. Some modern equipment includes but is not limited to overhead projectors, laptops, computers and calculators. New devices like "smartphones" and games (both online and offline) are seriously gaining a lot of attention because of their detection capabilities.

Those who use educational technology to discover ideas and communicate intent are either learners or teachers.

Consider the Human Performance Technology Handbook. Technology stands for "applied science" for the disciplined areas, educational and human performance technology. In other words, any process or processes derived from original research using the scientific method can be considered technology. Educational or human performance technology can be based purely on algorithmic or self-empirical processes, but neither of them necessarily refers to physical technology. The word technology is derived from the Greek word "techne" which means craft or art. Another word "technology" also comes from the same root, which can be used when considering educational technology. Therefore educational technology can be expanded to include the techniques of the teacher.

Bloom's 1956 book, The Taxonomy of Educational Observations, is a classic example of a lesson in educational psychology. Bloom's taxonomy, while designing learning activities, can be useful to keep in mind what the learning goals of the learners are and what is expected of them. However, Bloom's work is not explicitly related to educational technology by itself and is more concerned with pedagogical strategies.

According to some, an educational technologist is one who transforms basic pedagogical and psychological research into evidence-based applied science (or technology) for learning or instruction. Educational technologists often have bachelor's degrees (postgraduate, doctorate, Ph.D.) in the areas of educational psychology, educational media, experimental psychology, cognitive psychology or, more precisely, educational, instructional or human performance technology or instructional (systems) design. . or D.Phil). But some of the theorists listed below have always used the term "educational technologist" to describe themselves, preferring a term such as "teacher". The transformation of educational technology from a cottage industry to a business is discussed by Shurville, Brown and Whitaker.
